Lunch Revolution project, a healthy meal for allə (Vega Circle)

Every day, so manyə teenagers find themselves having to choose between a quick, unhealthy meal or, worse, skipping lunch. For those who get out of school without time to get home, or for those who have no one waiting for them with a ready meal, the alternative is often junk food: cheap, convenient, but far from nutritious.

With Lunch Revolution we want to make a difference. Thanks to your support, we can provide free healthy lunches to the 60 kidsə at our "La Creuza" community center, ensuring a tasty and balanced alternative. A meal that is not only food, but also a time of sharing, caring and well-being.

Donate too and join the lunch revolution! With your help, we will provide not only a better meal, but also the habit of choosing wellness every day.

  • Indirect: families : families

WHY WE DO IT

Adolescents' brains have a ravenous desire for reward, less behavioral control and a marked predisposition to be "shaped" by experience. All this often manifests itself, too, as a reduced ability to resist high-calorie, unhealthy "junk food."

Obesity is on the rise worldwide, explains neuroscientist Amy Reichelt, especially among childrenə and adolescents. More than 150 million childrenə worldwide were obese in 2019, resulting in an increased risk of heart disease, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. If these trends continue, by 2040 the 70% of adults aged 40 years could be overweight or obese.

These data worry us, but they also prompt us to take action. We believe that every adolescent should have access to a healthy, balanced and free meal, without the cost or convenience of junk food being the only option. A meal is not just nourishment: it is care, attention, and a chance to choose well-being.

Lunch Revolution was created to give those in need not only a better alternative, but also the opportunity to build healthier habits that can accompany themə into the future.

The DREAM Project (Community of Sant'Egidio).

DREAM (Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDS and Malnutrition) is a health program established for the treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS in Africa, sponsored by the Community of Sant'Egidio in collaboration with the DREAM Foundation. Its main goal is to ensure the right to health and combat malnutrition in African countries.

Over the years, due to its achievements, the program has broadened its scope, taking on even greater significance: Disease Relief through Excellent and Advanced Means (Disease liberation through advanced and excellent means). Today, DREAM is a program of global health for Africa, not limited only to HIV, but also to other infectious diseases and chronic conditions.

The activities of the DREAM Foundation

The DREAM Foundation Community of Sant'Egidio Onlus works to support global AIDS interventions, while also promoting social solidarity and international cooperation initiatives. Currently, the foundation operates in 10 African countries, offering:

  • Programs of diagnostics, treatment and prevention Of HIV/AIDS, according to the DREAM model.
  • Training courses for health care providers to ensure an effective and sustainable system of care.
  • Collaborations with the Community of Sant'Egidio ACAP Onlus and other local organizations for more widespread impact.

One of the fundamental principles of DREAM is that. access to care is a universal right. For this reason, all services offered-including high-quality treatments-are completely free For patients and beneficiaries.

The impact of DREAM

Since the launch of the program, over 500,000 people received treatment, and 120,000 children were born without the HIV virus to HIV-positive mothers. Across Africa, the following have been created 50 clinical centers based on the DREAM model and 28 molecular biology laboratories, equipped to ensure effective diagnosis and treatment.

DREAM's experience has shown that investments in AIDS treatment have had a positive impact on entire health care systems, leading to:

  • Training of qualified medical personnel.
  • Creation of new health care infrastructure.
  • Innovation in models of care.
  • Evolution of the National Guidelines In African countries.

A model for the future

DREAM is not only a program to combat HIV/AIDS, but represents a role model for combating malnutrition, infectious diseases, and chronic diseases in Africa. Based on the best medical protocols developed in the most advanced countries, the program has been able to adapt to local needs, becoming a benchmark for the entire continent.

The goal is not only to replicate HIV treatment centers in other African countries, but also to propose a health care model innovative and sustainable, capable of dealing with many other health emergencies.

A project dedicated to very young children (Emotions Played)

Fondazione EGO - Emozioni Giocate ETS is a Genoa-based organization that, for over ten years, has been supporting children and young people with various conditions, including intellectual disabilities, genetic syndromes, rare syndromes and autism spectrum disorders.

Mission

The mission of the Foundation is to enhance the personal resources and develop the potential of the children and youth who participate in the workshop activities. The team that coordinates these activities consists of Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Professional Educators and OSS, thus offering a 360-degree multidisciplinary approach.

  • We offer recreational-educational and therapeutic courses and projects to improve the mental and physical well-being and strengthen the self-esteem of children and young people attending the facility.
  • We provide structured support to families (Parent Training), to create and maintain an environment conducive to children's peaceful development, within a nonmedicalized facility.
  • We firmly believe in the path to independence: we help children take their first steps toward independence, overcoming obstacles and frustrations they encounter in daily life.
  • We make our experience available to schools and teachers to support and enhance the principle of inclusiveness.

First steps

Among the Foundation's initiatives, a project dedicated to the Piccolissimi (4-7 years old), i.e., those children who have recently received a disability diagnosis, was activated. The experience of Emozioni Giocate highlighted the importance of starting from the very beginning to work with the child and his or her family, in order to achieve significant results on the developmental level and offer concrete support to the problems related to the diagnosis and family management.

Thus a need arose to create a course focused on sensory development and stimulation. Sensory activities aim to attract the attention of young children in a playful way, allowing them to experience new things.

The goal of the project is to promote children's mental and physical well-being and sensory system development through:

  • Playful-educational activities using different materials and games.
  • The use of the Snoezelen Multisensory Room, present in our premises.

With the support of the Foundation's specialized operators, each child will have the opportunity to enhance their perceptual skills, improve motor activities (gross and fine), interact more effectively with the environment, and spend fun times together with their peers.

Safety study of Kaftrio in pregnancy and young age

To understand, in experimental models, the effect of dihydroceramide accumulation on nervous system development and health in young people with cystic fibrosis (CF)

Project data

  • Responsible: Lucilla Nobbio (Neurological Clinic - Laboratory of Neuropathology, IRCCS Policlinico San Martino Hospital, Genoa)
  • Category(s): Innovative therapies and approaches to correct the basic defect, genetic
  • Partners: Andrea Armirotti (Analytical Chemistry Facility, Italian Institute of Technology, Genoa)
  • Researchers involved: 6
  • Duration: 3 years

Goals

The combination of drugs ETI (elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor, or Kaftrio) has greatly improved the life expectancy and quality of life of many people with cystic fibrosis. Following safety studies, the US FDA also approved its use for children aged 2 to 6 years. However, while ETI is generally well tolerated, it can sometimes have side effects.

With the increase in the number of women with CF undertaking pregnancy and the consequent increase in children born to mothers on ETI treatment, it becomes crucial to have more information on its safety during gestation. Current data, although comforting, are still limited to a few cases.

From previous projects (FFC#1/2021 and FFC#1/2023), it was found that ETI can cause an accumulation of specific lipids (dihydroceramides, dHCer) within cells. This increase seems to promote better recovery of the defective CFTR protein in cystic fibrosis, but excessive accumulation could potentially generate undesirable effects, especially in younger subjects. In particular, a high level of dHCer is known to affect some critical aspects of nervous system development.

This new project focuses on just that, examining in an animal model the possible risks associated with Kaftrium use during pregnancy, lactation, and developmental age. The aim is to test whether exposure to Kaftrium may result in dHCer accumulation in tissues in the fetus or infant, with possible consequences for the health and proper neurological development of young people with CF.

The information that will be collected, regardless of the outcome (positive or negative in terms of safety), will be useful in optimizing therapeutic strategies aimed at mothers and children with cystic fibrosis. In addition, the experimental plan includes the identification and monitoring of biomarkers related to the accumulation of dHCer in the blood, which could prove to be valuable tools for adjusting and refining the therapy itself in the future.

The "Save them with your heart" project (Flying Angels).

Flying Angels Foundation was established in 2012 to provide a specialized service of financing and organizing air transfers, with the aim of ensuring that seriously ill girls, children and adolescents who are unable to seek treatment in their own country are able to reach hospitals where they can undergo urgent surgery or treatment. Assistance also includes a return flight for the child and his or her companion after discharge and subject to medical clearance for repatriation. In more than 80% of cases, the condition to be treated is cardiological in nature.

Save them with your heart

The project offers children under the age of 18 with congenital heart disease air transfers from their home country to specialized hospitals that can treat them. Although heart disease can be a risk factor, these children can travel safely on commercial airplanes, with the option of using medical oxygen on board if needed. This aid, if the severity of the heart disease requires it, is handled by the parent or a health care provider accompanying the child.

In 2022, the first year of the project, Flying Angels flew 110 children with heart disease mainly from the Balkan area, Mediterranean countries, Africa and South America. In 2023 and 2024, the number of children helped increased to 140, and by 2025 the goal is to assist about 180.
It is critical to intervene quickly when there are changes in the structure or function of the heart, sometimes within the first month of life, to avoid an often tragic outcome. 80-90% of the children helped by Flying Angels have heart disease; the "Save Them with Heart" project ensures that they can reach the hospital as soon as possible where they can undergo the surgery they need to survive. Thanks to advances in medical, interventional and surgical techniques, the chances of survival have increased dramatically, enabling the restoration of heart function compatible with as normal a life as possible.

Motor and sports activity project hemato-oncology department osp. Gaslini

A.S.D. Free Sport is a social promotion sports association, founded in 2016, that carries out motor and sports activities aimed at children, youth and adults with and without disabilities in the Genoa area.
The main objective is to provide an opportunity for integration and inclusion through sports activity, involving people with different motor and intellectual characteristics.

Motor education, sports and movement are tools that make it possible to overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties, promoting the participation of everyone, regardless of their abilities. The proposed activities aim at the complete growth of the person, promoting motor, relational and cognitive development. Through the body, each individual knows and interacts with the environment, learns new information and acquires awareness, thus building his or her own identity. The idea behind the association is to always adapt motor and sports activities to the needs of each child and youth, so that everyone can take part.
Everyone must have a chance to reach their goal!

Our proposal

In collaboration with the Hemato-Oncology Department of Giannina Gaslini Children's Hospital in Genoa and A.B.E.O. Liguria (Ligurian Association of Hemopathic and Oncological Children), A.S.D. Free Sport is proposing a motor and sports activities project dedicated to children hospitalized in the department.

  • Weekly cadence, with meetings lasting about an hour, using the different areas (rooms, corridor, game room).
  • 1:1 ratio of Free Sport operator to child.
  • Use of new and sanitized materials if they are shared by several children on the same day.
  • Activities tailored to each child's needs and desires.
  • Constant adaptation of proposals to the context and characteristics of the individual, without losing the play and sports component.
  • Multi-sport approach: different disciplines and games are offered to identify those best suited for each child. Considering space and the need for low-intensity activities, the fundamentals of the individual disciplines are readjusted according to the medical staff's recommendations.
  • Activities are agreed upon and planned in synergy with physicians and ward staff. Before each meeting, instructors receive information about the conditions of the children who will participate so that appropriate proposals can be structured.
  • The goal is not to make young patients lose their desire to play sports and discover new opportunities during hospitalization.
  • Customized pecs or pictures can be used to promote the inclusion of children of other nationalities.
  • Monitoring: questionnaires will be administered to assess the degree of satisfaction and involvement of children and their families.

Our goal is to create an inclusive environment that enhances everyone's abilities, not difficulties.

The course will be taught by our sports instructors, who have degrees in exercise science.

Orange Wave: a wave that helps you "Fly"!

Since 2009, the Marathoners have been turning every race into an extraordinary opportunity for sharing and joy. Thanks to the hearts, arms and legs of our "pushers," our Special Athletes can experience the thrill of the wind in their faces, returning smiles that light up every finish line.
For us, running is not just a sport, but a way to show that disability is not a world apart, but an integral part of our world.

What we do

Our association, present in Piedmont, Tuscany, Liguria, Lombardy and Lazio, has been turning the passion for running into an orange wave for over fifteen years. The color of our jerseys and race wheelchairs distinguishes our Special Athletes (disabled girls and boys in wheelchairs), who, thanks to the support of "pushers" (marathon runners, ultramarathoners or simple Sunday runners), can "run" in the most prestigious running races in Italy.
We put our legs at the service of those who cannot use them, thus enabling Special Friends to experience moments of strong inclusion that would otherwise be precluded to them. To do this, we use specially designed racing wheelchairs to ensure safety and comfort; each Special Athlete has a model suited to his or her needs.

Our project for the Family Run in Genoa.

Over the past year, in the province of Genoa we have welcomed two "New Entrants" among our Special Athletes, Filippo and Matteo, who have already participated with us in many important races in our region and other parts of Italy. To ensure that they, too, have a "dedicated" wheelchair, we are raising funds to purchase these essential aids, which ensure safety, comfort and fun in competition.
With your support, we can continue to color the streets of Italy Orange together with our Special Friends and Friends!

The project "A Gift for Rebirth" (Rotary)

Project kicks off "A Gift for Rebirth", promoted by the Rotary Club of Genova Golfo Paradiso together with other Genoa Rotary Clubs, under the patronage of the Liguria Region. The initiative was created to spread and promote the culture of organ and tissue donation as an act of solidarity and social responsibility to the community.

Inspired by the International President's motto 2023-2024, "We create hope in the world.", the project aims to offer a perspective of rebirth to the thousands of patients waiting for an organ, to continue living, or a tissue, to recover a function. The communication campaign will be developed in several phases, favoring digital tools but without neglecting traditional channels.

Project beneficiaries

Organ donation is the basic prerequisite for any transplantation: without donation there can be no transplantation. Patients on the waiting list are the first beneficiaries, not only in Liguria but throughout the country (more than 8,000 people). In fact, collaboration among Transplant Centers encourages the exchange of organs and tissues between different Italian regions. All recipients of the information campaign are also potential beneficiaries: each of us can become more aware and choose to become a donor.

How to get informed and become a donor

The project "Connecting Languages, Saving Lives" (Save the Woman).

The project "Connecting Languages, Saving Lives - Beginning in Genoa" represents an innovative expansion of the NONPOSSOPARLARE chatbot, developed by Save the Woman Association. The main goal is to overcome language barriers that limit access to support services for victims of domestic violence by expanding the chatbot with translations into Romanian, Arabic, Albanian and Spanish.

Starting from Genoa, a city with a significant foreign community, the initiative aims to extend the service nationwide, potentially reaching a significant number of speakers of these languages. The distinctive value of the project is the integration of   cultural mediators  , which ensure not only accurate language translations, but also essential cultural sensitivity in dealing with sensitive issues such as domestic violence.

The project addresses an urgent social need: in Italy, domestic violence is a widespread phenomenon, with over   13,793 requests for help   in 2023 for incidents of domestic or gender-based violence experienced by women ( _Source: State Police and Save the Children_ ).   CAN'T TALK   offers them a support tool   discreet, anonymous, and 24 hours a day, helping to save lives and promote inclusion.

Detailed description of the Project

The multilingual expansion of the chatbot CAN'T TALK   was born out of the growing need to offer effective support to foreign women victims of domestic violence in Italy.

Genoa was chosen as a pilot city because of its demographic and social characteristics. The city is home to a significant foreign population, which could benefit from this service.

The target language communities include several nationalities, with a focus on Spanish, Arabic, Albanian, and Romanian.

Cultural Sensitive Approach

The project is not limited to simple chatbot translation, but takes a deep cultural approach. Cultural mediators   ensure that the language used is respectful of the specificities and sensitivities of each community. This is especially crucial for an issue as sensitive as domestic violence, which is often influenced by complex cultural and social factors.

Alarming data

The Italian context highlights the seriousness of the situation: in 2023, over   13,793 requests for help   were registered for domestic or gender-based violence ( _Source: State Police and Save the Children_ ). In addition, the   31.5% of women   experienced some form of physical or sexual violence in their lifetime ( _Source: ISTAT and Ministry of Health_ ). About the   13.6% of women   experienced physical or sexual violence from partners or former partners ( _Source: ISTAT and Ministry of Health_ ).

Project implementation

The initial phase involves:

  • Translation   e   cultural adaptation   of the chatbot in the four selected languages.
  • Pilot test in Genoa  , with the involvement of local cultural mediators.
  • Retention of basic characteristics: anonymity, 24/7 availability and intuitive interface.

This phase will enable immediate outreach to a significant number of potential users in the Genoa area.

National expansion

The project plans a gradual extension nationwide, with the aim of covering a relevant number of speakers of the target languages in Italy.

Social impact and monitoring

The project aims to:

  • Reduce isolation   of foreign victims, who are often excluded from services because of language barriers.
  • Providing immediate and safe support  , available anytime, anywhere.
  • Promoting inclusion   social and cultural through empathetic and respectful service.

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • Collection of chatbot usage data (always anonymously and with respect for privacy).
  • Direct feedback from users and cultural mediators.
  • Periodic social impact assessments to continuously optimize service.

Support the project

To ensure the implementation and expansion of NONPOSSOPARLARE, the Save the Woman Association   has launched a fundraising campaign. Every contribution can make a difference and help save lives.

Conclusion

The project "Connecting Languages, Saving Lives" is a concrete step toward a more equitable and accessible support system. Breaking down language barriers means saving lives, giving hope and building a more inclusive society.

Together we can make a difference.

The Atta Houses Project (All for Atta).

Tuttiperatta is a social promotion association (APS) founded in 2017 thanks to the support of about 40 volunteers. Its mission is to organize events and carry out socio-cultural activities for the benefit of children with incurable diseases. The association, composed entirely of volunteers, is based on the values of solidarity, unity, sharing, integration and education, promoting initiatives that foster a sense of community.

Although it operates mainly in the Municipality of Arenzano, Tuttiperatta turns its attention to children being treated at Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, promoting volunteerism and active citizen involvement. The goal is not only to get the community involved in events and small projects, but also to stimulate the birth of new initiatives with a strong solidarity value.

Activities and Projects

  • Fundraising events (Attatrail): Since its inception, the association has organized charity events to support other entities engaged in caring for incurable children (e.g., Maruzza Association).
  • New Bylaws APS: In 2020, Tuttiperatta adapted its statutes to Legislative Decree 117/2017, obtaining registration in the regional register of third sector entities and, subsequently, in RUNTS. This status allows the association to participate in local and regional calls consistent with its mission.
  • Gaslini Hospital Accreditation: Also in 2020, the association received accreditation with the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa, further consolidating its collaboration on behalf of young patients.
  • Practical support for patients: As a result of the association's growth and successful initiatives, Tuttiperatta began providing equipment to Gaslini Hospital ("Wash me at Gaslini" Project) to improve care during hospitalization. It then developed a form of direct support to families, often not living near the hospital, by providing temporary housing.
  • Donation of a minibus: In 2022, Tuttiperatta donated a 9-seater van to the ABEO Liguria ODV Association to transport children undergoing treatment at Gaslini Hospital.

The Atta Houses Project

This project was created to offer families with children being treated at Gaslini the opportunity to spend short vacation periods in Arenzano, giving themselves a respite from treatment when conditions permit. In collaboration with the Child and Family Welcome Center (CABEF) of the hospital and with other associations active in the area, the need was highlighted for real housing where the entire family can recreate as normal a daily routine as possible: going to school, eating in the cafeteria, going to the beach in the summer and sleeping next to their little brothers and sisters.

How it works

  • Le Houses of Atta are temporary housing for families of children hospitalized or undergoing treatment at Gaslini Hospital, selected by CABEF based on compatibility with distance from the hospital.
  • Initial hospitality: For an initial period, the association fully covers the costs of rent, utilities and condominium expenses.
  • Next contribution.: Once the family has settled into the local environment (school, health services, social relations), a contribution to expenses is required.
  • Sustainability over time: this approach makes it possible to create a virtuous circle in which families, once integrated, help to support the hosting of other families in need.

Inclusion support

The association provides assistance for:

  1. Contacts with the municipality For obtaining tax domicile.
  2. Coordination with social services For school-related facilities (cafeteria, transportation, etc.).
  3. Liaison with the Red Cross In case of specific transportation needs for sick children.
  4. Orientation to the world of work To foster the integration of families.

Future developments

  • To date, the association has 5 accommodations (3 in Arenzano and 2 in Genoa), with the goal of leasing two more near Gaslini during 2025.
  • Renovation work, estimated at about 60,000 euros, which will be borne by the association.

With Atta's Homes, Tuttiperatta is committed to offering concrete help to families experiencing particularly difficult times, providing an environment where their children can regain some sense of normalcy.
